Pass me a biscuit...My niece remembers a childhood lesson...

Via my niece Missy Washburn:
When I was a kid, my mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work. On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage, and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! Yet all my dad did was reach for his Biscuit, smile at my mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I'll never forget what he said: "Honey, I love burned biscuits." Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, "Your momma put in a long hard day at work today and she's real tired. And besides... a burnt biscuit never hurt anyone!" You know, life is full of imperfect things... and imperfect people. I'm not the best at hardly anything, and I forget birthdays and anniversaries just like everyone else. What I've learned over the years is that learning to accept each others faults and choosing to celebrate each others differences, is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship. So...please pass me a biscuit. And yes, the burned one will do just fine! And please pass this along to someone who has enriched your life... I just did! Life is too short to wake up with regrets... Love the people who treat you right and forget about the ones who don't. ENJOY LIFE NOW - IT HAS AN EXPIRATION DATE!

3 Little Angels

While it breaks my heart to type a blog such as this. I do this because talking about stuff like this helps me heal and learn. And I want others to know about these "Three Little Angels" On July 28th in Meredan KS sadly the lives of the beautiful sweet little girls and their mother were in a bad car wreck. Katelyn Danielle Spencer age 8 and her sister Alissa Ruthann Spencer age 5  tragically died at the scene of the crash. Their little sister Madelynn Nicole Spencer age 4 and mom Stephanie were air lifted to 2 seperate hospitals.
Madelynn (Maddy) ppl called her was taken to a childrens hosp in KS, her mom to another hosp in KS.
My cousin (2nd cousin  you could say actually Chad, Stephs husband and the father of the  "Three Little Angels" is the son of my cousin Howard Spencer) Chad was rushed from work to find is world as he knew it had changed in the blink of an eye. is world as he knew it had changed. Chad went to the hospitals. Now out of respect of my family I am not going to go into a lot, what I will say is circumstances led to Maddy earning her Angel wings the next day. I can say that she lives on in many as her dad through all his pain and heartache let Maddy be a donor.
Here is information to be a donor. To register to become a donor in honor of Madelyn Nicole Spencer please visit http://www.mwtn.org/ or call 888-744-4531

When I saw Chad and Stephanie, I simply hugged them, told them I had been where they are at. And that down the road should they ever want to talk, I am here for them, to listen answer questions help in whatever small way I can. I knew there were no words at that moment that could help them but to know someone had felt the pain they were and are feeling.(that of losing a child suddenly without warning) I reached out to them, they know I am here.

One more thing and that is these three little angels had a huge love for animals. They were involved in 4-H. The family ask that you donate to an humane society in your home town. Below are some other ways you can help this family. You may go online and leave them a message, prayer, words of HOPE/comfort @ http://www.penwellgabeltopeka.com/ (remember your leaving a message for the SPENCER family. Before I write the poem I leave you with this, live each moment as if it were your last. Never let a day go by that you don't let your loved ones and those important to you know you love them and that they matter each and every day.

Last I say, thank you to my online family and friends. There are no words to tell you how I appreciate you all! I now leave you with "Three Little Angels"

               "Three Little Angels"
              written by J.R. Conser
If theres a heaven above the clouds,
Then I know where those three little girls are now.
And if heavens as great as ledgends have told,
Then theres unicorns and castles..a little girls dream unfolds.
And if theres angels singing those hymns,
Then I know three little angels who will fit right in.
And if its true that angels walk with us along the way,
Then I know three little angels who'll check up on us everyday.
And if Gods as loving and forgiving as the Bible has said,
Then I know that someday He'll let us see their faces again.

Those calls from the Dr that make your heart drop...

This is kind of going backward a little bit. A couple of months ago mom had her follow up check up with her cancer doctors. As she had lung cancer in the past though she has been cancer free now 8 yrs they still check her out yrly.
We went to the DR..had the normal chest xray, mamogram bloodwork. I would say its about a week after the test the Drs office called and...said to my mom..."we need you to come in, there is a small spot in your lung we need to follow up on."
So as my heart sank, I prepared myself to hear that moms cancer had returned. I took mom to her cancer Dr for her PET scan ( a special scan that looks for cancer spots) and we were told to schedule an appointment for a week.
Result day came...my older brother took the day off work and he n I took mom to the Dr..  As mom, myself and my brother sat waiting all with knots in our gut...finally in walks the DR...with a smile he says...Gertie (thats mom) You are still cancer free. Mom says "Thank You Jesus!" My brother and I breath a sigh of relief. But I write this becasue it is so important once you have had cancer...stay up on your check-ups with your Drs. Don't let appointment slip...Follow up is so important. We have been so blessed. Mom had breast cancer first, a month later my sister was diagnosed. Both went through treatment, both are survivors. There is HOPE, don't ever give up the fight and there are people too support you. Share your stories with us on FACEBOOK join our fanpage HOPE4ACURE share your stories with us and let us support you. Thanks for reading my blog.

A day in my life as HOPE4ACURE

Well, this is my first blog, so be patient with me. Where to start...
Ok, so Prettty much I come from your normal every day average family. We have our ups n downs, and we work through them but as a whole life is good.
Then came 2002 my mom Gertie, who today is 84, in 2002 we heard the word nobody wants to hear CANCER! Mom had breast cancer. Feburary 14th 2002 mom had a mastectomy and began her chemo n radiation, and though she went through all the expected side effects. Thank God it was successful. One month to the day mom was diagnosed we again heard that ugly word CANCER this time my sister Jenny, exactly a month to the day after mom was diagnosed, again chemo-radiation and success. Time passed, all was well, so we thought..mom got sick and was admitted to the hospital..again that word CANCER this time LUNG...Mom sat us down and said "i don't want to upset you kids, BUT I'm almost 80 yrs old. I've been blessed with a beautiful family and a great life. I will take the chemo, BUT, I
am NOT taking the radiation this time. It makes me weak, n sick n I'm down in bed and IF it is my time to go, I don't want to be sick, I want to enjoy my time with my family. I am putting my trust in the Lord." She said, "If it is my time to go, I've had a great life. I am putting this in the LORDS HANDS!" Praise the Lord as I write this today mom is CANCER FREE 8 yrs now and so is my sister.
So I have been involved with the American Cancer Society/Relay For Life/Hancock County, Illinois.
